Calculators

Free calculators that show the working: card processing fees, currency conversion markups, APR to APY and loan repayments. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

#Which calculator answers your question?

  • What does a card payment cost a shop? The card processing fee calculator adds the percentage fee and the fixed fee and shows the effective rate.
  • How much am I losing on a currency conversion? The FX markup calculator compares the rate you are offered with the mid-market rate. The ECB notes that its reference rates are averages of buying and selling rates rather than prices of actual deals, so treat any mid-market figure as a benchmark.
  • What does an advertised rate really mean? The APR ⇄ APY converter turns a yearly rate into the yield after compounding, and back again.
  • What will a loan cost each month? The loan payment calculator shows the payment, the total interest and how the first payments split between interest and principal.

#What should you check before trusting a result?

Use the figures in the actual offer, not a headline rate. On a loan, the CFPB explains that the APR reflects the interest rate plus points, broker fees and other charges paid to get the loan, so two loans with the same interest rate can have different APRs. Credit card interest is usually quoted as an APR as well. The calculators only do the arithmetic: they do not know your fees, tax position or credit history, and they do not recommend any product.
